World Cleanup Day was first held on September 15, 2018 under the leadership of the international organization "Let's Do It Foundation." Since then, this World Cleanup Day has taken place every year in various countries to rid the environment of garbage. The goal: to encourage 5% of the world's population to make a lasting social change in behavior with regard to the global waste problem. This year's World Cleanup Day officially took place on Friday, September 20, which is now also entered as an international day in the United Nations calendar. Equipped with grabbers, gloves, safety vests and garbage bags, a total of 5 groups started the clean-up operation in Dillenburg at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Due to the size of the clean-up area, each team was assigned a specific area for which it was responsible. Garbage was collected not only on the factory premises, but also in the surrounding car parks and sections of road. Within a very short time, numerous full garbage bags were already piling up at the drop-off point - the amount of garbage was great and people were amazed at the amount of garbage. The clean-up operation was finished at around 11 a.m. A total of 328 kilos of garbage and 10 cubic meters of green waste were collected.
