Just recently, the architects of the Karvogl - Aicher Architekten Dornbirn - narrowly missed out on the ‘austrian brick and roof award 13/14 (ABARA) with the ’Campus Dornbirn" building, which is also clad with STRÖHER clinker brick slips. The ‘Campus Dornbirn’ only narrowly missed out on a nomination for the international architecture prize ‘Brick Award 14’ - but it did receive a so-called ‘recognition’ for second place. There is more justifiable hope of winning the trophy in 2015 than for another of the Aichers' buildings. After all, Aicher architects have long recognised the design potential and application advantages of this type of façade cladding. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

Anodised aluminium façade, exposed concrete, glass and clinker brick slips: If you didn't recognise the mountains in the background, you wouldn't think you were in Tyrol. The architects are also Alpine - but above all architects. Just as the clients of this private building project were first and foremost clients who wanted to create something special for themselves. In the short term, no cost optimisation was required, especially in terms of cubature and façade design. In the long term, however, the timelessly modern outer shell, made to last ‘forever’ with Ströher clinker brick slips in the colour metallic black, pays off. Several condominiums and an underground car park were realised in the clearly structured substructure. The top floor, which differs from the other storeys in terms of form and design, forms the final storey.

While namesake Johann Kravogl once received the Golden Cross of Merit from Emperor Franz himself for the invention of his electric motorbike - the predecessor of the electric motor - the sight of this residential complex is also reminiscent of an award. For the fact that the developers had planned three of the four floors for sale from the outset, the apartment block in Kravoglstrasse has a great deal of attention to detail. Apartment blocks are usually imagined differently. The penthouse, which is occupied by the owners and clad in bronze-coloured, anodised aluminium panels, towers like a bird's nest above the storeys clad in ‘Keravette metallic black’. And somehow it looks as if only the oldest cladding material in the history of construction could have been trusted to provide the necessary visual support: clinker brick slips.
