The French chain ‘B&B Hotels’ has opened a new hotel in the budget design category in Magdeburg city centre directly opposite the Museum of Cultural History. The ‘stylish design - moderate price’ concept has growth potential: within three years, the chain has increased the number of its hotels from 85 to over 140 locations. Those responsible are not worried about the capacity utilisation of the Magdeburg branch - after all, Magdeburg and its surrounding area are among the popular tourist ‘hidden champions’ in Germany.

Budget design hotel in the heart of Magdeburg
Guests at the B&B Hotel Magdeburg benefit from a prime city location: they stay with a view of the cathedral and can easily reach the train station and city centre on foot. In addition to the cathedral and a varied programme at the four-section theatre, the Hundertwasserhaus and a contemporary art gallery in the Romanesque monastery ‘Unser Lieben Frauen’ attract visitors to the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt.
Architecturally, the L-shaped, five-storey building, whose height is in line with the neighbouring residential buildings, has a special charm thanks to its facade design. This is because the compact structure is ‘clad’ in an outer skin made of a mix of plaster and clinker brick. The ‘Glanzstück No. 04’ clinker brick slips from extrusion specialist Ströher have a decidedly modern look thanks to the slim DF format (240 x 52 mm) and the subtly iridescent beige surfaces. At the same time, the brick slips, which have irregular edges and a silky matt texture, contrast perfectly with the even, light beige-grey plaster surfaces. The façade displays an unconventional design finesse in the window reveals and lintels, which run diagonally backwards into the wall opening on two sides, modelled on the so-called ‘jambs’ - and lend the facade not only three-dimensionality but also tension through this asymmetry.
