Installation recommendation for

garden slabs


Ceramic surfaces in outdoor areas are to be installed in a professional manner in accordance with the following codes of practice and standards:

 

·    ZDB Leaflet "Exterior surfacing: Surfacing constructions with tiles and slabs outside buildings", August 2019 edition.
·    DIN 18531 Waterproofing of roofs as well as balconies, loggias and arcades
·    DIN 18195 Waterproofing of structures

 

The specified recommendations are exemplary for the purpose of simplified, schematic visualization only. Complaints resulting from improper installation cannot be regulated by the manufacturer.

Flat roof

Example installation in grit bed

Patio, soil-based

  1. Soil ground
  2. Crushed stone bed (grain size 0/32 mm), vibrated
  3. Water permeable separation layer (Geotextile)
  4. Grit bed (grain size 2–5 mm)
  5. Grout crosses or gravel and chippings bedding
  6. Garden slabs

Balcony

  1. Concrete support slab
  2. Sloping concrete screed, 1.5 to 2 % slope
  3. Waterproofing

Garden (lawn)

  2. Grit approx. 5 cm in (grain size 2–5 mm)

Example for fixed installation

Patio, on soil ground

  1. Soil ground
  2. Crushed stones bed (grain size 0/32 mm), vibrated, frost-resistant installation
  3. Water permeable separation layer (Geotextile)
  4. Drainage / mono-grain mortar
  5. Thin bed/ Fluid bed mortar
  6. Garden slabs installed in buttering floating on hardened drainage / mono-grain mortar. (Alternatively, not shown in illustration: Installation in fresh mortar bed. Apply adhesive to back of slab and tap into fresh mortar bed).
  7. Flexible cementitious grout

The entire structure (including the surfacing) is to be installed with a slope of 1.5 to 2%.
